Very disappointed about customer care - Kobo cover fell apart

I recently bought my first ebook - the Kobo Aura. It works quite well and I have enjoyed reading a number of books on it already. The reader came with a 'luxurious protection cover'. Unfortunately the quality of the cover is abysmal. It fell apart after 2 weeks.

I reached out to customer care and got the message: the cover does not fall under the general guarantee. I thought that to be an impossible response...

Anyone else have the same experience?
