That's marvellous! I was gnashing my teeth on Boxing Day trying to install the Nook app from Google Play on my mum's new Kindlefire. Wish my dad had bought her a kobo to replace her Nook that has gone doolally. Any ideas about what to do with that? It's frozen on the wallpaper and swiping the screen won't open it. A soft restart just gives the same problem as you can't tap to power off either. The light still works though so it must be the screen that has died.

I've heard about a build up of dust preventing the infra-red detectors from spotting the swipe to turn the Nook on. It might be worth cleaning around the crack between the case and screen. The Nook uses criss-crossed beams of infra-red light across the surface of the display to detect the presence of your finger. Dust on the sensors along the edge of the screen could conceivable prevent a switch on.
