When I saw the first photos of the Kindle Oasis I was bowled over by the physical design - I loved the idea of the mechanical page turn buttons and the overall look of the thing.
But when the full spec was released it became clear that it is just a Paperwhite with a fractionally better display, a longer battery life and a couple of page turn buttons. Oh, yes, and a £160 price hike. I think I'd feel ripped off to spend two and a half times the price of the Paperwhite - or twice the price of the Kobo Aura H20 - on an ereader that doesn't appear to do the job significantly better. Indeed, it was a surprise to many that the Oasis was not water-proof. Not even matching the capabilities of the Kobo Aura H20 at that price point is unforgivable. Would I buy a £270 or £330 Kobo? Again, no. Not even for colour e-ink. To my minds, it's just too much for a fairly simple, single-use device. |
