Problems with Adobe Digital Editions?

Has anyone else experienced problems downloading free books from kobo? I hadn't on my own PC, but after setting it up on my mother's laptop all the files are downloading as zipped folders containing all the individual files rather than as a PDF. I've spent ages redwnloading and trying to extract them and open with ADE, but nothing works. The weird thing is I've managed to get two books across alright but I don't know why. the only difference is that I didn't add them to the kobo library. I even tried downloading them from my account rather than my mum's but it didn't help! We're going away for Easter later so I won't be able to do anything else about it until Monday, but all suggestions welcome as I'm not that IT savvy really. The Adobe website is a bit useless, no FAQs on this subject. Happy Easter to everyone though!

Almost all of the books from Kobo are in epub format rather than pdf. Epubs are really just zip archives containing individual html and some other files, but they have an .epub extension instead of .zip

There is a bug, either in Windows or the web browser, that causes downloaded .epub files to be saved with a .zip extension. This means that they are no longer recognised as ebooks by the file browser and other programs. Try renaming the .zip back to .epub and it should be seen as an ebook again.

Oh great, thanks! That does make sense. It'll have to wait until I'm visiting my parents again, but I will give that a go with some freebies and possibly introduce my parents to Firefox.
